An attitude of gratitude

One of the quickest ways to increase your sense of well-being is to think about the many blessings in your life. The universal law of attraction declares that we will attract into our life the very things we think about and focus on. When you are creating an attitude of gratitude by cultivating a greater awareness for all the blessings in your life you are likely to attract even more.

 

Developing a gratitude habit has positive benefits for our health. Researchers are finding that individuals who exhibit and express the most gratitude are happier, healthier, and more energetic. Grateful people report fewer symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, nausea, even acne, and spend more time exercising!

 

As children we are taught to be good mannered and to say ‘thank you’; as adults do we say it enough?  When someone tells us how much they appreciate us we are more likely to feel warm-heartedness towards them. Sometimes we don’t think to tell people how grateful we are for their positive contribution to our lives.

 

Another benefit of developing gratitude is that when we think about what we are grateful for we are opening up to new possibilities. Gratitude is a great teacher and when problems present themselves there lies the opportunity for learning something new.  Being grateful for things that may cause us momentary pain is important too because it is often the suffering that will lead us to grow and heal.

 

Start walking with gratitude being fully present in each step, grateful for every breath you take. Feel the gratitude for your body and the solid earth beneath your feet. Focus on all that is good in your life and very soon you will find that you are able to move into gratitude more easily wherever you are.

 

In addition to or instead of walking then perhaps you might like to take a few minutes last thing at night to make a list of five things you felt grateful for today; a great way to begin your night’s sleep.
